Muvhango

 Muvhango

Muvhango is a South African Venda-language soap opera conceived by Duma Ndlovu and produced by Word of Mouth Productions. It draws inspiration from the real-life narrative of the former Chief of Thate in Venda, incorporating elements of township and Sowetan life.

Debuting on SABC2 on April 7, 1997, the series initially aired as a 13-episode drama set in Johannesburg and Thathe village in Venda. After three seasons, it transitioned into a soap opera, airing three nights a week (Monday to Wednesday). On April 5, 2007, coinciding with its 10th anniversary, Muvhango expanded to four nights a week and later, in March 2014, to a five-day-a-week schedule.
