Records reveal the singer's repeated inability to file taxes, primarily related to gigs and endorsements. A close friend of Makhadzi's blamed Open Mic and former manager Rita Dee, among others, from her previous management.

As claims of tax default surfaced, Makhadzi found herself enmeshed in turmoil. The South African Revenue Services (SARS) are purportedly owing more than R6 million by the MaGear singer. An informant revealed that Makhadzi's filing failures since her big break in the music business are the root of her tax issues.

According to documents ZiMoja was able to get, the artist was not aware of the mounting debt, particularly with regard to taxes and VAT associated with her engagements and endorsements.
